I ended up cancelling the FADEC part of the order and using P-mags with the Precision Airmotive (Bendix style) fuel servo instead. The more I talked about FADEC with other builders, I decided it wasn't worth the extra cost. It also seems like Aerosance has not done anything in the last 2 years to improve the system. Their web site and brochures have no updates since 2004.

Hey dave,

I'm building a RV7 too, your website is very interesting and I started reading many articles, as you decided for mattituck with the Fadec TMX360 i don't understant why you has installed the P-mag ignition system, FADEC has their own electronic ignition, hasn't?
I have still 6 mounth to decide the engine by now my prefernces are an IO-360 from mattituck or Aerosport with P-mag ignitions (I have doubts about lycomming or superior parts) also I like the AFS 3400EE

Great site & very helpfull .
best regards
Josep

My understanding in this area is a little fuzzy. I know the AF-3400 can display a CDI-like display for an SL-30 now and should work with anything that outputs serial data. The GNS-430 that I'm planning on using doesn't have serial output. It has analog output lines and I guess ARINC 429. AFS is working on using a ARINC 429 to serial converter to interface the GNS-430 to the AF-3400 as well. In fact that's the set up Rob is planning for his own plane.

Dave, enjoy your page. I'm a year or so behind you. Am I understanding correctly that the AF-3400 can accept input from SL-30 and display graphics so you can fly the localizer and glide slope? If you connected it to a GPS unit like the Garmin 296 or 396, what information would be brought over?

Regards,

Bill

I was see'ng +/- 1" MP variations on my EIS4000 until I installed the restrictor fitting. I just used the 45 degree version that Van's stocks and has you use for the fuel/oil pressure. You really need to put in on before your baffling since it gets in the way but doable with it on. (At least in my case.)

Hi Dave,

Herewith a suggestion to tackle the oil line problem, worked ok for me!

http://websites.expercraft.com/PHVII/index.php?q=log_entry&log_id=7909

Furthermore be careful on the left floor/air intake combination: there should be enough space left in your floor for the air filter, so you'll have to trim the cowl air intake, see our site for details.

I am very curious at your oil filler door hinge, could you send me some pictures?

thanx,

Dave,

You'll want to put a clamp around the exhaust pipe at the lower end of the heat muff to keep it from sliding down. Even with the two end clamps on the heat muff, that doesn't hold it tight to the exhaust.

Looking at the picture of the fuel line clamped to the exhaust via some adel clamps. I don't think this is going to work... you might ask around. I see two problems. Vibration being one.. and melting adel clamps being the second.

You might look into it....
